Spirit Saturday: The Clark Gable

Wait, so why did I name this cocktail Clark Gable? Well, let me tell you: The spirit of this libation is Bourbon and what classic movie actor epitomizes Bourbon better than Clark Gable? Not only does he ooze Southern charm (well, he's actually from Ohio) and class (what I think of when Bourbons comes to mind, i.e. Mint Julep, Old Fashioned), but it also happened to be the spirit of choice for Mr. Gable.

The Clark Gable yields 1
3 ounces Bourbon
2 ounces pear nectar
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
pinch ground ginger
pinch ground cardamon
grated nutmeg (optional)

Fill a cocktail glass with ice and water to chill. Meanwhile put a few icecubes in a cocktail shaker and add Bourbon, pear nectar, lemon juice, a pinch of ground ginger and ground cardamon. Shake until very chilled.

Dump ice water from cocktail glass and strain recipe into glass. Add another pinch of ginger and cardamon on top and garnish with fresh grated nutmeg. Kick back, relax and enjoy Red Dust.

  1. Hi Kate. I was writing a post on a Cobb Salad, which originated at the Hollywood Brown Derbe, which Clark Gable would frequent. I thought a cocktail recipe to go with the Cobb Salad would be nice. I googled Clark Gable Cocktail and found you. Would you mind if I recreated your recipe and posted it. I would of course give you credit for the recipe and link back to this page. I look foward to hearing from you and peeking around your site. Libby
